DOES IMPLEMENTING ISO 9001 HAVE ANY EFFECTS ON ONE'S COMPANY CULTURE?
Corporate culture is the norms, beliefs, attitudes that direct the
behavior of people working in an institution. E.g.; quality/occupational
objectives, quality/occupational policies, organizational structures, company
purposes, mission visions leadership experiences and their knowledge, strategic
thinking, ethical norms, to increase customer satisfaction, etc.
Changing culture always doesn’t need implementing QMS such as ISO
9001. The organization can change a culture without standardization. Changing
culture is not easy for some companies. To ready/open for change depends on
current situations and top managers.
Adapting culture should start from the top management and these adapting
process should continue to the lowest level employees.
Innovation and change are necessary for a culture to form. This leads
to a change in behavior. Change takes place step by step. Achieving and
maintaining in the targeted corporate culture from the existing corporate
culture can only be through a systematic method and perspective.
The standard of ISO 9001:2015 mentions the culture. To put it briefly,
quality culture comes from the organization context under 4.1 and 4.2 Items.
According to 4.1 Item, Note 4: ‘‘Understanding the internal context can be
facilitated by considering issues related to values, culture, knowledge, and
performance of the organization.’’ According to this, to implement any QMS, the
organization should identify its views and published to internal/external
stakeholders.
Namely, QMS can guide the organization on how to use QMS and the
results of the systematic approaches can change their perspective in terms of
cultural perspectives. It is no doubt
that having QMS will bring to the organization a lot of positive advantages.
For example, Implementing QMS will increase the organization’s brand quality
and prestige against the shareholders and customers.
Culture comes from the basic. To adapt the corporate culture to the
employees, top management must display appropriate behavior first. Only then
will spread of and adapt to the entire organization. At this stage, the
leadership is essential necessarily via the top management commitment. When a
system on corporate culture comes, culture becomes immortal and employees adopt
it.
